Fun & Games to Fight Alzheimer’s
Wednesday, June 17
Game Friendzy is hosting a fun-filled, fund-raising day on Wednesday, June 17, at its Cherry Hill location and you’re invited to join in the festivities and the fight against Alzheimer’s.
The tabletop gaming venue is joining the Alzheimer’s Association in its annual global effort to raise funds for research and care. Formerly “The Longest Day,” the Alzheimer’s Association has updated the name to “Do What You Love to End ALZ” to reflect a broader vision.
The goal is to raise money while having fun and Game Friendzy has a full schedule of entertaining events, with 20 percent of the proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Activities include a social bridge session, an American Contract Bridge League-sanctioned game, a mah jongg and canasta session social play session, an instructor-led crafting session on quilling, and, all day, a complimentary “Food Friendzy” finger foods buffet!
The day will start with a 9:30-11:30 am “Shuffle and Deal” social bridge session led by a facilitator who will answer questions and lend guidance during play.
At the same time, in another room, a crafting instructor will teach how to roll thin strips of paper into coils with a quilling tool, manipulate the coils into shapes, then assemble into decorative designs. The session will focus on flowers, petals, circles, hearts, and other shapes, which participants will fashion into cards, gift tags, or pictures.
The ACBL duplicate bridge game begins at 12 pm and players can win extra black masterpoints at regular game prices, as Game Friendzy is covering the extra playing fees.
The mah jongg and canasta session runs 1-3 pm and will feature two-, three-, and four-person variations of both games, depending on attendance. A facilitator will be available to answer questions and assist with playing. All supplies are provided and beginners are welcome.
The fees are $12/player for “Shuffle & Deal” social bridge, the ACBL bridge game, and the mah jongg and canasta social play session, and $20/participant for the quilling craft session.
Game Friendzy is an accessible facility with free parking located at 7 Carnegie Plaza, Suite 400. Entrance and parking located at the back of the FOX Rehabilitation office building.
