Learn this valuable bridge convention that will help you and your partner explore slam.
Jacoby 2NT is an artificial, game-forcing response to a 1 spade or 1 heart opening bid, showing four plus trump support and game-forcing hand.
The 2NT bid asks your partner to further describe their hand to determine the viability of a slam contract.
Each week the facilitator will develop and discuss the bridge topic of the week. Players will then have an opportunity to bid, play, and discuss various hands that illustrate the lesson. The sessions will follow the ACBL beginning bridge series Commonly Used Conventions chapter 3.
Class Topics by Week*
Week 1
Opener: Hand evaluation including Rule of 20, quick trick count method, using length or shortness.
Responder: Bidding with and without support.
Week 2
Opener: Opener rebid, continuing auction.
Responder: Initiating Jacoby 2NT.
Week 3
Exploring slam after Jacoby 2NT is initiated.
Week 4
Handling interference before and after responder’s bid and Dormer/Truscott/Jordan 2NT.
Week 5: Bonus Practice Week
Putting it all together. We will bid and discuss as many hands as possible.
